DD-WRT Smarter DNS Setup

Last updated by Shayne M on May 21, 2013 18:30

DD-WRT and router in general are sometimes tricky to setup. As result, we recommend you to setup Smarter DNS first on your PC/Mac to see if your network supports DNS service. If it works, then you can proceed with this tutorial.

1. Write down the IP address of two SmarterDNS servers closest to your location, you can get these from the SmarterDNS section of our members area here http://vpnsecure.me/members

2. Login to DDWRT. Go to Setup. Make sure these options are unchecked:
Use DNSMasq for DHCP
Use DNSMasq for DNS
DHCP-Authoritative

ClickApply Settings if necessary

3. Go to Services. Under DNSMasq, choose Enable for DNSMasq and Disable for Local DNS.

Under Additional DNSMasq Options, enter:

no-resolv
strict-order
server=[ip-address-of-SmarterDNS-1]
server=[ip-address-of-SmarterDNS-2]

Replace [ip-address-of-SmarterDNS-x] with the SmarterDNS server IPs you got from Step 1. Click Apply Settings
